Ever since I was a little girl I have fantasised about flying around in a jet pack, like the one James Bond had in the 1965 film, "Thunderball".
Apparently it was based on an actual device, the Bell Aerospace Rocket Belt, which consisted of two 11 litre tanks of hydrogen peroxide that were reacted with a silver catalyst to produce a high-pressure, high-temperature steam to propel the pilot upwards. Unfortunately this pack could only operate for around 30 seconds before the gas supply was exhausted. Obviously the jet pack of MY fantasies would be able to last a couple of hours, at least
Bell Aerospace Rocket Belt
It really frustrates me that we can fly men to the moon & back, but we STILL don't have a commercially viable version of the personal flying device I have therefore decided that if I can't have a real jet pack in this lifetime, then I am perfectly within reason getting it tattooed across my back!! Watch this space...
