Our annual sales conference at Devonvale Golf & Wine Estate just outside Stellenbosch was not as painful as I had anticipated it might be (these things can be beyond tedious if not organised properly). Apart from the, um, "little glitch" of my wayward spouse missing his flight (yes, he actually read his schedule wrong, if you can you believe it!?), & me having to spend my ONE AFTERNOON OFF trapsing back & forth from the airport in a hire car, it was a relatively stress-free trip. [Every year the company flies all our partners to the venue for the final night - the "gala evening" / prize-giving ceremony]. The Cape winelands are a very pretty part of our country, especially in autumn (my very favourite part of the year). Here is a magical photo opportunity outside a farmer's pub on a lazy Friday afternoon I just couldn't resist...
Upon our return to Johannesburg the following day, we raced off to my business partner's place for me to direct my first shoot for Edge Models, which turned out to be a roaring success. Below are some behind-the-scenes "happy snaps" of the bikini shots we did in the late afternoon, before the light died, & we moved onto the two indoor parts of the shoot. I can hardly WAIT to see the final product (post Photoshop magic) which my photographer, Sean, should hopefully have ready for me soon, yeehaah!!

That evening I got violently ill. Still not sure if it was from something I ate or a tummy bug I picked up on my crazy travels, but I have just spent the past week fighting to get my digestive health back on track. As sick as I was, I decided to brave a 4-&-a-half hour drive to the mountains (as a passenger, mind you), to spend some much-needed quality time with my parents who live 600kms away, & whom I only see a couple of times a year. After living on a diet of Bovril toast, Game & good ol' mother's love for 6 days straight, let's just say I am now a very welcome 4 kilos lighter, & haven't touched a cigarette or a drop of alcohol since the shoot. Although the timing was pretty shit (I had taken 5 days' leave), & I was very weak, I still managed a 3-hour ride in the mountains. Astride the most gorgeous little Basotho pony, called "Silver Beauty", my fellow riders & I climbed to a look-out point 1,600m above sea level. The view was astonishing - it had snowed a little on the highest peaks the previous evening - & knowing that we would be returning to our polluted urban jungles the following day, we drank in the pristine scenery like there was no tomorrow. I wish I had had my camera with me, but the battery had died two days' prior. This is not the 1st time this has happened; I MUST buy a back-up battery Below is a pic I took at around 1,300m two day's prior, from the golf course of the resort where we were staying..
I've just worked out that over the past 23 days I have slept in 4 different beds - excluding my own! - & have spent no less than:
8 hours flying between Johannesburg & Cape Town
19 hours driving between Gauteng & KZN
5 days in 2 conferences
No wonder I got sick! But thankfully things look like they'll be slowing down now. On Monday it's back to a regular week at work, & pretty soon you should all be able to see my Edge site really taking shape with all the best pix from the shoot as I gear up for my official launch to the industry in (hopefully) about a month's time. Watch this space...
