Um, there seems to be a bit of confusion surrounding my favourite genre of clubbing music. saffa is certainly not the only one around here who is a little in the dark as to exactly what EBM is all about So I decided to give you all a break & describe - in my own words, mind you - a little more about the phenomenon that, when you last checked, seems to be taking over dancefloors of alternative nightclubs around the globe...
Well, to start with - EBM is an acronym for Electro Body Music & is basically synonymous with stuff that goes down really well amongst people who like to dress up, go out, & party hard. Especially amongst those of us who occassionally like to indulge in what I would delicately refer to as, um, mood-enhancing 'party prescriptions' I would personally describe EBM as dark dance music, ie. alternative "doef doef" - with intelligent Gothy lyrics & Electro / Industrial undertones.
There's a pic of me in my Pics folder taken a few years ago wearing an orange t-shirt with the word GRAVER across the chest. This was a name I came up with to describe someone who, like me, is what outsiders might refer to as a rather confused "Goth Raver", ie. we look pretty much like Goths (long black hair, strong makeup, etc), but we party like Ravers Hey, the way I see it, we can enjoy the best of both worlds Lee & I can, & often do, move between underground alternative clubs & more mainstream dance ones. It's actually amazing how many Technoheads there are out there, who, like us, have come from an alternative background.
Front 242 (from Germany) have traditionally been the definition of EBM - probably because they named it! But I would say that Apoptygma Berzerk (from Norway) & VNV Nation (from the UK) are more representative of the current EBM sound.
And that, my dear readers, concludes EBM 101!! Hope it all makes sense to you

Breytenbachs are the idiots that are refusing to organise any more Fokofpolisiekar events overseas any more. It's a long story, but they (Breytenbachs) seem like a bunch of uptight a&&holes to me...
