Howdy, peeps!
This Saturday I'm going riding at a place near Southgate, called StirrupGlen. It's been a while since I last rode (at a friend's place in Benoni, late 2005), so I can hardly WAIT to get back in the saddle! And if I really like the *feel* of this farm & the horses available - I may very well make a regular weekend thing of it. Although I had exclusive use of a lovely semi-retired Thoroughbred last year, Benoni was unfortunately a 45 min drive there, plus a 45 min drive back, & my petrol expenses sky-rocketed. I estimate the trip to & from StirrupGlen should take me no more than 20 mins either way
Next Saturday (Easter Weekend), Lee & I are going up to Pretoria for a Metal / Goth "jol" at Zeplin's. Although I am definitely more of an EBM bunny now, I want to meet the photographer, Sean Coetzer, whom I have roped in to do the first test shoot for my new business venture. And he said he & his wife are going to be there. If you'd like to check out some of his awesome work, go to Vampire.co.za.
Yeah, yeah, I know you're dying to hear more about my business
Well, now that I finally have the date for the photo shoot confirmed (Sat 13th May) & already about a dozen enthusiastic prospective employees on board, I suppose I can fill you in on exactly what it is I am going to be doing...
First, check out my temporary home page: EdgeModels.co.za. Hopefully you'll find it pretty self-explanatory
Last night I incorporated a pic of the exquisite Miss Rox Suicide into the design. This morning I sent her an explanation / formal request to use the photo, & am currently awaiting her reply / approval...
But, what, you may well ask, actually sets my agency apart from the competition? Well, it is owned & managed by someone with a strong marketing background, as opposed to a modeling one. There is currently a small but definitely growing trend amongst creative people in the local advertising, fashion & related industries to use more real looking models & extras with whom the youth market can more readily identify. South Africa is traditionally a very conservative market, but over the past couple of years, the backwards mindset of the Apartheid era in which I grew up seems to have shifted quite significantly.
As an ex-Goth (I started getting into the alternative scene in the late 80s), & still a regular underground clubber, I personally have direct access to beautiful people from all sorts of interesting sub-cultures where no mainstream agency owner or talent scout would dare tread! I believe I am a good example of / ambassador for my own brand as I basically "look the part & lead the lifestyle". Over the years I have also worked on a few assignments, both in front of & behind the lens, as well as on the runway, & so know what is expected of all parties involved.
Don't worry, I am not giving up my day job just yet! I'm hoping to launch the completed website by June / July, followed by an aggressive marketing campaign to all relevant industries. And after 6 months, we'll see...
Wish me luck!!
Love you all
