After doing our bulk monthly grocery shop on Tuesday night, Lee & popped into Richard's place to collect some stuff of ours, including the vase I had taken round to his old townhouse with a massive bunch of red roses & a card, a day or two after Angie died in November, plus one of her professional makeup caboodles he wanted me to have - for my new business (watch this space...)
Over tea & caramel cupcakes (we're definitely all getting old, ha ha!) we had a long intimate chat about how he's been coping, & what his plans are from here onwards. They were due to be married in 3 week's time (22nd April). Now, instead of going on honeymoon with his bride, he's flying over to England to spend some time with her family, meet all of her UK friends, & do a bit of traveling around Europe with her younger brother, Donovan, instead. When he comes back, he's hoping that his head will be clear & he'll be able to make the necessary adjustments (perhaps a change of job, maybe sell the house) to make a break from the past & finally move on with his life.
My heart just goes out to him whenever I hear him talking about her. I showed him the Hello Kitty tattoo I had done to commemorate our friendship, & he showed me the tattoo he had also had done in her honour. It's a replica of the rose she had on her calf, with the words: "Life is Finite / Love is Forever" on either side. (You can see her rose through her fishnets in the pic below, which was taken at our wedding in June last year. Only 3 months before they got engaged, & 5 months before she died).
I've just come across some more pix of her in some of my folders - the "Blue Period" were ones I took on a makeup shoot in late 2004 / early 2005 (?); the other was one I took of her & some girlfriends in a pub in Camden, London (Devonshire Arms) in March 2004, when I went over for my younger brother's shotgun wedding, & shortly before she returned to South Africa to reunite with her first love. (Angie had lost her virginity to Rich way back when she was 16, & had then hunted him down online 10 years later...luckily he was single when they finally again made contact! And the rest, as they say, is history...)
