Today is a very special day for us, because today we are celebrating 12 years together!! It still makes me smile when I think of the little "Jo'burg punk" I took home to meet my parents for the first time way back in 1994...
It's not like any of my previous Durban boyfriends up until that point had been "normal" or anything
But, hell, who knew that this one would turn out to be "the one"??
A lot of people ask - aloud or to themselves - how you keep the romance alive after such a long time?! Well, it's basically a case of "do or die". For example, last night I was wined & dined at the Saxon - probably one of the swankiest boutique hotels on the continent (& where the waiters proudly told us that Oprah Winfrey & Nelson Mandela have stayed on several occassions already). After reminiscing about the past 12 years over some of the most awesomely avant-garde dishes we have ever laid eyes on, we rounded off our meal with a cigar on wooden deckchairs overlooking a magnificent swimming pool, then raced home & made the sweetest, baddest love in Africa, bathed in passion & moonlight
I really do consider myself one of THE luckiest women alive...
This pic is from the first batch of pix we ever had taken together, 2 months after our first kiss, & a few weeks before we first had sex together! We were dressed up to go to an "Intergalactic Party" at Berea Inn, our local Goth haunt in Durban back in the early 90s:
