I've just learnt a new word: "hiatus". Thx, Suspiria!! In an email I received from her this morning, she apologises for the length of time it took her to reply to an email I sent her a while ago, saying: "...sometimes I go into an online hiatus". Well, not to worry, girl, (now I know the meaning of this cool new word!), I reckon that is EXACTLY what's been happening round here lately. But before Life runs away with me completely & I end up losing track of all comings & goings - not to mention my sense of sanity! - I guess a quick update is in good order:
Firstly, my lunch with Gia last week Thursday was brilliant. We chatted away like two long lost friends! Sooo much in common
Then on Saturday morning I went & saw Arwen at Arwen Corsetry about some clothes I want made. What a sweet girl. Only 28, but wise beyond her years. That was followed by a quick French pedicure at Sorbet in Cresta. And then it was onto Skin Tattoo Industries in the afternoon for my first tattoo! Gia joined us a little later on. Here are some pix I took of Milo at work on her armband:
I must say, I am very happy with my little Hello Kitty. We did it at the top of my back, centrally positioned, just below the nape of my neck. I will post some pix as soon as it has healed properly. At the moment it is still feeling rather tender & is looking pretty crusty
This Saturday, a whole bunch of us girls (at last count there were around 10 of us!) are going on a looooong-overdue ladies' night / farewell for Ronwen - who moves to the UK on 14th Feb. The venue is a little club right round the corner from where we stay, called The Red Room. Here are some pix of a few of the ladies who will be joining me. Next to Angela, these are definitely my closest girlfriends in Jo'burg:
Ronwen
Yolanda
Tarryn
Angie did all the makeup, & I took all the pix. It's gonna be really weird not having her there with us. She was always the life & soul of the party. While I was doing my makeup the other morning I thought of the way people often do toasts to "absent friends", & I guess this is gonna have to be one of those occassions...

Sorry I've been so quiet the past month. What was supposed to be a quiet month in the middle of winter here, with no photography work, instead became a fairly hectic time. I had to submit some tech articles to be published in a photo trade publ here in the USA. A huge thrill for me. And then a lot of other things which distracted me.
I'll spend some time next week and properly catch up on your journal.
And I still owe you a reply as to when and how and why we emigrated to the USA.
