I went to a hearing today. It was an unemployment compensaton hearing for a former employee. My Boss and i went and the other guy showed up with a lawyer. I figured out what the guy stood to gain if he were awarded unemployment, and it was like $160.00 a pay. Unless the lawyer was from some kind of legal aid center, I'm sure he cost at least $300.00 so chuck out a month's salary right there. Go figure, Some people just like to fight.
Anyway, it was a total crock. Since we (the employer) arrived first we looked over the folder with all the relevant documents. Then the claimant and his lawyer took the folder into a conference room and spent another 20 minutes with it. When the referee was ready to begin proceedings, she asked who had the folder and the claimant's lawyer said "we don't have it, the employer must have it." WHAT? anyway after a few moments they "realized" they had the folder and we went to begin the hearing. The ref asked if both sided has reviewed the folder. I said "I have reviewed the the folder and its contents." The claimant's lawyer said "Um .. I didn't have a fair opportunity to look this over." BULLSHIT they had the folder a lot longer than we did. when the lawyer asked for time to review the documents further she denied their request.
Anyway, the guy's testimony was (in my poinion) all based on lies, or at least half truths. I suppose personally i don't care if he is awarded compensation or not. i have no personal stake in it. I don't lose any kind of bonus if he wins per se, other than it will affect my profit and loss to some degree.
Afet his conduct in my store I have nothing nice to say to him or about him so i won;t say anything at all.
