what the Pittsburgh Steelers lack ...
Americans LOVE football. We as a whole have not embraced soccer. i suppose that's more of a European sport in our eyes. We like Hockey and we used to pass the time enjoying nine innings of baseball.
We as a spectator society don't really get into classic athletics unless we have family participating in some kind of competition or meet. You know, like when your parents used to go to all your high school track and field events.
American sports fans don't seem interested in a pure match of skill. I don't like watching technical demonstrations of anything .. its boring.
Why do we love football so much? I think because its a military conflict produced as an athletic drama. We have long standing "dynasties" which wage war against one another for decades. Rival war colleges within two distinct ideologically opposed "city states" Oh, the city fathers of the NFC warned us never to trust the AFC.
The great commanders and tacticians are the celebrated coaches. We put the "quarterback" on high as the battlefield general.
The game itself plays on the concept of breaching the enemy's defenses and marching your forward infantry deep into the occupied territory of ... THE END ZONE.
Ok, do you get it now? Football plays on our collective love of a great battle and a decisive victory. Like i said, DRAMA.
but you know, in any GOOD War story, the solder always makes it home to his girl, or at least she serves as his motivation. So many Soldiers in War Movies are seen pining over a picture of the wholesome, Zesty, and Chesty "girl next door posed as a pinup" type and announcing to his squad "this is what I'm fighting for."
So... Cheerleaders, where are they Pittsburgh? These are some of the key the elements of any great spectacle. Conflict, Violence, Victory and ... SEX.
This is why the Seahawks are gonna win the Superbowl. Short skirts.
