I'm back Kids.
And now a word about Soap.
Chances are, you've never used soap. You've used encapsulated detergent. Soap is the product of a chemical reaction between an alkali (almost always Lye) and an oil (Animal Fats in the old days, Person fats in Fight Club, Vegetable Oils in most hand made soap.) problem with that is, that reaction can take weeks to complete after the soap has been cast. Your friendly neighborhood cosmetics omnicorp doesn't want to wait weeks, so they synthesize industrial detergents from (wait for it) Petroleum! Petroleum is not awfully stable, so lots of other fully synthetic chemicals are needed to render it useful as a bar of "soap" (which as we've allready established, isn't soap at all) and to par down the chemicals to the point where it doesn't spark allergic reactions in more than 10% of it's intended audience.
In short, if you shower and shave in the morning you've exposed yourself to something in the area of 100 synthetic chemicals, most derrived from petroleum, before you even have coffee in the morning. Dermatologists tell us that we absorb into deep tissue approximately 30% of what we put on the surface of our skin.
Makes you hesitate to light a match, don't it?
