And I'm back!
Edinburgh was fun, although not quite as fun as I was expecting. I only knew one person who was taking stuff up this year, usually I know three or four so I can jump around a little more and mix the chaos up a bit. My friend was pretty busy with his show, more so than he expected to be considering he's the director and they are two weeks into the run, He was up for fun... kinda. Also another friend of his, very sweet but a little dull, was up and so the quantities of chaos that could be caused were limited.
Alas, I tried to wreak havoc but not much was forthcoming.
Still, I drank the doctors recomended monthly alhohol allowence in four days. Good effort that man!
I saw Mark Thomas. The best standup act I've seen.... ever! He did a really moving peice about Coke and the boycott. I tend not to buy Coke anyway, because of some nasty things they did in India. I also knew they were pretty cosy with the Nazi's, but hey, that was fifty years ago.
But what he had to say about their involvement in all the nasty stuff that goes on with trade unionists in Columbia really blew me away. HERE is a good general overview of Coke as a company and various controvesies. Click HERE for the Columbian Solidarity campaign's section on Coke (also a good read is information on exactly how much cash the US gives the columbian government each year and why that is a bad thing).
HERE is a good pdf document about all the other nasty things Coke gets up to.
Finally, here a good place to go if you want to get more involved, here is a complete list of Coke brands and subsidiaries.
Please everyone read the list and boycott all the products on it, or as many as you can. That also includes Disney and Bacardi, cos they are closely involved.
As a sidenote, tell all your friends or cut and email the above list to them. Boycotting really does make a difference. About 4 years ago I started to boycott Nestle. Since then I've convinced a good 50 or so people to do the same. if just ten of those have gone on to convince ten of their friends that's 150 people, some of whom might take it as seriously as I have and go on convincing others.
I don't know about you guys, but per year I spend at least a couple of hundred pounds on Coffee, cerial and chocolate, and here in the UK Nestle have a big market share in all those things. 100 lost customers might add up to 50k or more per year, and that's just the effect of one person going around shooting his big mouth off.
