my job can be so heart breaking at times. Few months back I met this beautiful girl. She was so nervous and scared of everybody. Its very rare I let myself get too envolved with an animal at work as it messes with my head but once I looked into her eyes I just fell so in love.
The first time I got her out in the run it took a little time before she would stop growling at me but as soon as she came over and let me fuss her that was it. We had an immediate bond. She went from this scared and nervous dog into a silly giggly little puppy. Everyday she would get so excited when I went to see her and we would have a cuddle and smooch. Then it was decided that she was a pitball and had to be put to sleep. Although I was expecting this it totally broke my heart. Her behaviour suggested that she hadnt had a good life and now the last week of her life she has to spend it scared in a kennel. she got put to sleep at the end of the week and I was glad I was there with her. It was only for 5days but I really hope I made her feel safe and that she was loved.
Putting a dog to sleep purely because of its looks is so wrong and not fare. Not fare to the dogs, to the people that have to do it and the people that care for them.
