It's funny how it takes an event like moving away for you to realise you've been a pretty sucky friend for the last year or so. I have so many people to catch up with in the next few weeks before I leave, and a lot of them are people I haven't seen for months or years even. This is people who live only a few suburbs away, some that I even talk to reasonably regularly but none of us go to the effort of actually meeting up.
How is it that so many of us get caught up in the banalities of life that we neglect the most important things? Yeah, I've had a super busy semester at uni, but it's not like I work 24 hours a day. And someone has a new boyfriend they get caught up in, another has a new baby, new job, old job, new friends, no real friends.
So now, I have started organising my going away party with a bunch of people i haven't seen in a long time and am not likely to see for many years. And it'll be great! Hey, that's why I love my friends so much, each time we meet up, no matter how long it's been, we just pick up where we left off.
