London 7-7

BBC World/CNN International
Perhaps the most horrendous terrorist attack since 9/11 has occurred in London today. There were 7 (the House of Commons says 4) explosions in 7 (7 locations) on the 7th day of the 7th month (go on conspiracy theorists). The seven locations, Kings Cross, Liverpool Street, Moorgate, Aldgate East, Russell Square (the Bus attack), Tavistock Square, Edgware. I would tend to agree with Mr. Blair, that this attack more than likely is meant to correspond with the opening of the G8 Meeting in Scotland. It seems as if 6 coordinated explosions have occurred throughout the London transportation system. It seems, initially to be something like the work of Al-Qaeda or similar group, though there is no telling really who may be behind something like this, reports have been coming in for groups claiming responsibility. One commentator has said that it is probably a singular cell operating alone as Bin Laden has shut down communication between cells (based on confidential sources he said). It comes on the celebratory heals of London winning the bid for the 2012 Olympics.
The explosions were primarily in the center of London, in the financial district. Some of the oldest and primary stations serving London were the targets of the attack (Kings Cross and Liverpool St. stations among them). Not only is transportation in London slowed to a eerie calm (I can imagine), but traffic in and out of the city (Liverpool St. station serves Stanstead Airport) must surely be affected. The communications systems are being directed towards the emergency services, so that telecommunications are slow if not existent in the areas targeted in the attack. At this point there are 2 confirmed dead, and 90(+) injured being serviced at various hospitals around the city. The tube will be closed throughout the day, busses may start latter today, travellers are encourage not to enter central London.
