My letter To CCV regaurding the Burlesque Show situation:
I am a citizen of the city of Cincinnati. More importantly, I am a citizen of the United States of America. That being said, there is an important part of America's contract with it's citizens (Bill of Rights) that is clear in stating a right to free speech. Organizations, such as yourself, constantly try to re-define this right. What is good for you is good for everyone and thereby should not be forced on a community that does not welcome your "values." It is our rights as citizens to choose our own standards. I certainly do not want to follow your standards, and that is my right. The Suicide Girls are an Internet community dedicated to art that does not exploit women as do most sexual material deemed okay (i.e. Playboy). It really is sad that a community such as SG that is built on respecting women but also recognizing them as sexual beings (and all humans are) and not chastising them for their decisions. Decisions they have the right to make on their own. The crowd at the Southgate House would also have that same mentality. Progressive thinking is not against the law but only against your "values." Instead of trying to shut it down why don't you exercise your rights and not go. If you don't think its appropriate than decide by not supporting them. But Bad publicity is still that and you are only causing more attention to a community which at the present time has an modest following. You are now making it an issue with those who have not been exposed to it, and now you have called their attention to the SG's, exactly the last thing you would want to do. Larry Flynt is more famous for the legal troubles he had with similar "community values" and it only boosted his magazine sales. I would think by now you would know this is counter-productive. If your concerned about those who would be offended you need not worry because they wouldn't be there...well maybe now they will be since you called attention to it. Please, stay out of my decision making, I and other citizens in the Cincinnati area are intelligent enough to think for ourselves.
