I went to a photography symposium last weekend to see a couple of guest speakers.
There were 3 photographers in all, the first was pretty awful to be fair... he was a keen amateur who had stacks and stacks of prints that he wanted to talk about, and none of them were very exciting.... most like holiday snaps than anything more artistic, although I'm sure some of the people there were more appreciative than me!
The 2nd guy was the one I really went to see, Roy Elwood. He's in his 80's now but very entertaining and he has some gorgeous photos. He specialises in black and white film photography, mostly nudes with some documentary style pictures.
Heres a couple of examples of his work:
The 3rd speaker was a professional photographer who makes his living mostly from selling prints for posters and greetings cards, but what he wanted to talk to us about was his love for pinhole photography.
These photos were so amazing, they had a real vintage feel to them that I absolutely loved. All the photos were very long exposures, ranging from 30 seconds up to 40 minutes, making it quite a time consuming process but the end results were really worth it!
I've never used film before (I'm a child of the digital revolution!), but this has really inspired me to try some similar shots... I just love the feel of the photos, they're so soft and you can feel the emotions he was trying to convey with them.
