A ladyfriend recently informed me, that contrary to popular wisdom...
a bird in the bush, is worth more than two in the hand.
So now the year draws towards it's closing. Tuesday is the Winter Solstice (in the Northern Hemisphere), which is the true begining of the Solar New Year. The longest night... leads to the return of the gathering light. Life holds its breath... sleeping... awaiting its time to reawaken and burst forth in abundance. Within Winter... lay the promise of Spring. Within Darkness... lay the promise of the rekindling of Light. One cycle's end... is another cycle's begining. The ever-circle is ever-enduring.
We live in interesting times. Lets us dare to hope, that dread and trepidation can give way to faith and inspiration. Faith that we humans can be more than the short-sighted, all-consuming and ever-competitive species we consistently demonstrate ourselves to be. So much hate, so much avarice, so much manipulation, so much rapacious consumption... have brought our species and our World Mother to the brink of an abyss. Yes my friends, we do live in interesting times... a time of uncertainty, dread and a seeming ever-gathering gloom.
Yet...
Today, somewhere out in the world... someone helped an old lady cross a busy street. Someone slipped a homeless man $20. Someone risked their life, to save another. Someone volunteered at a soup-kitchen, to feed the destitute and hungry. Someone stood-up to a bigot, and called him on his bullshit. Someone dried the tears of a child, and gave her cause for cheer. Someone stayed up all night with a friend, to reassure them, and bring solace within their despair. Someone adopted an abandoned dog from their local shelter. Someone planted a tree. Someone gathered up garbage on a beach. Someone wrote a beautiful song or poem or book, or created a great work of art... to lend their vision of beauty to our lives.
Yes... today people did all these things, and more. It is in these demonstrations of the better part of the human spirit, that we must place our faith. And we must nurture them, in ourselves, and in our interactions with others. It is in this, that the "audacity of hope" can become a dream fulfilled. Dare to dream of a better life, a better world and a better humanity. And dare to believe this dream can come true.
And arise and be... all that you dream.
If there is love in the dream, it just might come true.
I want to wish all of you out there in SG-land, many happy celebrations.
And I wish for you and all you love, all the best and brightest blessings Life can bring... and that your lives are filled with promise and hopes fulfilled.
In closing...
a little Christmas Carol for ya'll...
K... just had to post one more, cause TSO is just too freakin amazing, and this video's pretty fun...
