It's essentially a World Cup of soccer -- but only Europe can compete in it.
Every four years, just like the WC etc.
It's a "big fucking deal" in world sport.
It's also fun to watch. Right now it's two games every day for the pool stages (4 groups, 4 teams each) then top two advance to the quarterfinals and it's knock out from there.
Ah, well it's one of those sports where if you go to a game with fans, or watch in a packed bar it's electric and you get addicted.
When I'm in Minnesota, if the US ever plays near you I'll drive down and we can go. You cannot have a bad time if you go and sit with the American Outlaws. We stand and yell, cheer and sing for the entire 90 minutes, it's ridiculously awesome.
Plus everything is rather easy to pick up, and it's a massive high.
In regards to the Euros the games are every day at 12 and 245 or rather 11 and 145 your time on ESPN, and then I think once the US Open Golf tourney starts they go to ESPN 2 then back.
If you are going to watch games, I can give you the schedule, and try to look up good soccer bars in your area which you should have since you guys have Sporting KC where you live (there is a dude on my soccer site that is a KC fan I'll have to ask him how much fun games are and if you went to one where you'd want to sit).
