Well, that's about it for vacation.
It's not that Friday the 13th has been unlucky - I've been unlucky ever since the schedule came out. Even with all the things that got covered, I am still facing 25 hours worth of stuff. The hard part is that, due to some study conduct we're doing, it's required that I get people to take entire blocks of events rather than just one or two that they can fit in their schedule.
So imagine this. You have approximately 70-100 people working in a particular place. It is a very busy weekend for them, and every single person except four are working. These four people have previously asked for the day off. There are at least two and possibly more people who would also like the weekend off because they have important things like once-in-a-great-while vacations or weddings to attend. However, everyone in the workplace is already working close to 8 hours, if not more a day - and there's still more work to be done that SOMEONE is going to have to do. Now imagine trying to get time off during this situation. That is what I am facing.
After talking to my boyfriend, whose reaction was for me to say 'fuck you, I quit', and thinking about what my mother would say (either 'tell them to fuck off or I'll tell them for you, or alternatively, to not bother anymore it's not a big deal) my results were completely useless and inconclusive. So I called up my ex-boyfriend, who I am still pretty close with and works in the same place as me. I asked him what I should do, since he was in this situation last year and actually knows what the fuck I'm talking about. He said, 'I wish I had some sort of help for you but have you talked to Chrystal? (my manager)'. I said yes, twice already. He was like 'If she can't do anything for you, and the study managers/CCSes can't help out, I think you're screwed.' So that's about that.
I guess on the upside, if I stay and work the hours I was given, I'll be pulling a 40 hour week and so my check will be good. The other girl who needs time off needs Sunday morning, and I've got one event - depending on what's going on next week, I might take all that from her so at least she can go, and it's entirely probable I'll pick up some of the extra stuff that still needs to be covered. Cause hey, who doesn't like overtime? (Thankfully my job spends overtime freely - oftentimes they don't have a choice. Unlike working retail, where sometimes we'd send people home early on a busy Saturday or else they'd go over their 40 hours, and the rest of us had to buck up and suffer through it. We can't just 'make do' at my job, cause people can only be in one place at one time. It's not like where you can go from 5 to 4 cashiers and the lines are just a bit longer.)
Of course, the sweet irony of this is that I have most of the following week off. Of course, if I end up not going (which is looking exceedingly likely) then I'll pick up holes left and right. Might as well get paid for something, and plus we get incentives to pick up those extra events (aka holes) so yay.
In any case, I'm fuckin exhausted as I went to bed sometime around 2 or 3, woke up at 6, went to work at 7, came back to the boy's at 9, slept til 1, got up, came home, puttered around the intarwebs, went back to work at 4, came home at 6, and now I'm changing and going to my 'second job' which is more fun than anything. I absolutely love it. I'm going to sit around with close friends, eat pizza, watch scary movies, and stuff condoms into packets. And get paid for it. So I suppose I better go. I hope you guys are having a less poopy summer.
