PLAYBOY has officially announced that as of early next year they will no longer be publishing nude photos in their magazines. This comes following their decision last year to no longer publish nude photos or videos on their website. They are being quoted saying that internet porn has taken over and there is no longer a need for nude women to be posed in their typical playboy poses anymore. I mean, is that really the story they're going to go with or are they just using that to cover up the fact that they more and more subscriptions dropping every year and just can no longer work at the caliber that they are accustomed to? Maybe it's just me, but I feel like this is completely inaccurate. The vast amount of porn on the internet doesn't take away the need for well photographed beautiful women. They are two completely different things. But maybe that's just my opinion...

@alykat and @grady31, I myself am a working professional photographer shooting equine sports with a rather wealthy elite crowd. Business was killer in 2007, dropped about half by 08. At first blamed it on economy but it blossomed out to all of the new technology and social media. I had customers at one time spending thousands for prints andbthen buying a tandom 25.00 print. The kids were more interested in crappy photos that they could post on FB NOW. The generation of buying and hanging a quality print on the wall is quickly passing. Hell, I'm guilty of the same. So this year I started offering web resolution images for about the same price of my 2nd lowest priced photo. Wow, that took off. Not only do I no longer have to spend lab fees and time to go to the post office but sales were up. Also this year I did see a resurgence in large print sales. I'm not into the porn thing but do love beautifully, artfully photographed women. The technology we love is also the monkey on our backs.

I believe you may be absolutely correct. I feel like lately, with so many alternatives to Playboy, (especially with 99% of them being on the internet), Playboy may no longer be perceived as influential as it was, and the subscriptions started to drop. Maybe even at some point they realized it was no longer profitable after all the payments to models and photographers? I'm curious about this. Nonetheless, I was very surprised to hear these news!
