There's a collar on the kitchen counter. It used to go around her neck. It holds her tag with her name.
Next to it is a leash. It was used to take her on walks, or on occasion, to escort her to places she didn't want to go, like the vet's. That's where she went today.
In the cuboard in the garage is a large bag of dog food, cups used to get her food from the bag to her bowl (a ceramic bowl painted by my mother) , several other leashes, shampoo, and some doggy treats.
Upstairs on top of a dresser, on top of the towels is a half chewed rawhide bone and an even more chewed tennis ball. Unless my oral fixation get's much worse, they'll remain half-chewed.
All these things that used to serve individual specific purposes. Now they all serve the same purpose, a reminder that she's not with me anymore. Della has been suffering dementia and finally the parents decided that it would be best to have her euthanized this morning. Now I come back from school, the house is empty, she's gone forever, and I'm crying with no one to comfort me but my cat. and he doesn't understand why I am acting so strange today.
