What a waste of a weekend. I was looking forward to spending the fourth with my friends in Denver. I called a few days ahead of time to let them know I was coming and they gave me varying degrees of commitment from "Definitely on Monday" to "Not at all" so I go down, attend church so I can hook up with some of them and they are like, "Oh....I have to work...hahah, sorry I FORGOT. Maybe later tonight though." some I'm like, "Ok, I guess so, I'll just catch up on my reading in a park somewhere (Since I no longer have a house in Denver.) The obvious question though is...how the hell do you forget you have to work!
So I go read in this park. but it starts raining so I read in my car. I finished one whole book (albeit a short children's book) and nearly finished another before 7 when Jenny was supposed to call. I waited until 7:45 with still no call. I decided, fuck it, I'll go to winter park and hang out with my family. So I'm headed up after calling ahead to make sure they were there and who should call me when I pass the halfway point? JENNY! She says, "Well, I wanted to figure out what we were going to do before I called you. We're going to Cinderella Man" WHich I have no intention of seeing. so I decline and keep driving. Now, if you plan on calling somebody anyway, wouldn't you call them to ask what movie they were interested in seeing?! argh! So I get to WP and low and behold, my dad and his wife are watching fireworks, and my step sisters; who were really the ones I wanted to see anyway, since I haven't in a while, are at their dad's house. So I finished Ender's Game and went to bed.
Today I hung out at WP because my friend Chau was not getting off work until 6. So I called Jenny to see if she wanted to Join us for dinner Tonight. She couldn't because she had a BBQ to go to. That didn't matter anyway because Chau ALSO forgotten a previous engagement!
I wonder if they realize how difficult and expensive it is for me to go to denver, especially alone like I always do. I wonder if they realize that I typically go down to denver just to see my friends, because that's how much I value them. I wonder if they realize that the reason I call so often is because I also know the value of communication and that, even if you cannot make it, it is polite to call someone when you said you would, so they don't wait around in parking lots and open-space for forty minutes thinking they are going to have a smashing time with their friends despite the tardiness of the call. I wonder if they realize how lonely it is to sit in your car, waiting for somebody to call you, or wander through stores waiting. I'm not mad at this point, I'm sad that I keep getting treated like this and yet, for some reason, I go back for more punishment.
<Kicks alien Corpse> Argh! I coulda Been at a barbequeue!
On a lighter note, I watched "A series of unfortunate events" today (hehehe, how Ironic that THAT is the lighter note of my day!) and found out that Thomas Newman, the genius behind the Six Feet Under scoring and musical talent is also the same one behind the film's score. The thing that strikes me as interesting is that Emily Browning, the actress who plays Violet bears a striking and uncanny resemblance to Lauren Ambrose, the actress who plays the part of Claire Fischer in SFU! how Neat is that!
Oh, it's also neat that I spoke to my friend Shteffi on the phone on saturday night, I was flipping through my contacts list and saw her and was excited, because I had forgotten I had her number
(okay, so we all forget things sometimes...but I don't forget when I have to work!)
