It has come to my attention that people are very strange creatures.
I have an easier time feeling a sense of community with complete strangers than I do with people I've known my whole life.
Think about this, When you're on Facebook, Myspace, Xanga, Live Journal or ay other social networking site, do you feel like you're part of a bigger picture, or do you feel like it's all about the latest gossip. I found out about Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, and Billy Mays death through Facebook. How fucked up is that? I don't have Tweeter personally but my friend who do says that it shut down it's servers from the over load of people talking about Michael's death.
Has it come to a point where all "major news" has to be gossiped about in networking sites for people to feel like they fit in, that they're part of a larger community as a whole that may be just slightly more caring than the computer screen at which they stare?
I think that since joining Suicide Girls I've found a greater sense of community than any other web network I've belonged to. People here care about one another, we're all individuals but we treat each other with equal respect, it's not about the gossip of life here, it's about the art, the passion we share and the things we love.
This world we live in is starting to scare me more and more each day. One day I'm afraid it will swallow us all whole without anyone noticing that we've all taken the lemming route and are now inches from the ground after the long plummet we're on.
Truly,
James
Sorry about bitching, It's just been on my mind lately, I like to write so I got it off my chest.
