Ok am I superstitious, not so much, but there are things that in Asia that creeps you to the core when it comes down to superstition as they always have something to do with that supernatural.
For instance in Chinese customs it is believed that during the 7th lunar month, the hungry ghost festival, is when the spirits from the underworld are given the opportunity to raise to the world of the living to "feast" on food, and it's during this month that the spirits are more "powerful" than usual.
Therefore when you go out do not wear anything too white or too dark, as they will mistake you for their kind. Do not go out too late or one might follow you home. When someone calls your name do not just turn your head around, instead turn your whole body or you might get possessed if it's something instead of a someone. That's just a FEW beliefs of what we chinese have during this lunar month.
For the malays, do not piss onto or next to any tree as there might be a spirit living in it. When you are out camping always keep a sharp object beside you as the spirits are afraid of sharp objects. The list goes on and on, have I mentioned that there are 4 major races here in Singapore?
Therefore each race a different culture and the asian ones are usually the freaky ones as almost all superstitions have something to do with the supernatural,'for some reason we don't have that stuff about demons attacking but we have things about spirits clinging onto or attacking people and stories about spirits attacking people is not a funny matter. They can cause damage from bruises and cuts to disability and even death. Usual cases are when they possess people and make them commit suicide.
There is a saying here that I think people should always heed "不信也得信” which means "Even if you don't believe in something, it's better to follow the customs... and save your sorry ass from regretting" ok the last bit is mine, just emphasizing how important this quote is.
One more thing is when you see or hear some supernatural in Asia, it is recommended to do this. 1) ignore it and don't say anything about it until you have gotten your ass as far as possible from that place. It knows you can see it or hear it cause it choose to, do not look around, keep doing what you are doing then leave and it won't bother you.
2) If you got something to do in that place or area, it's best to make peace like "I know you are here, sorry to bother you and I don't want any trouble, you do your thing and I'll do mine and I'll be on my way." Sometimes I've watch shows bout how them peeps, mostly caucasians, try to even challenge the "thing" by taunting it. Haven't they heard of "Don't fight what you can't see?!", ask anyone brought up in Asia and most of them will say that is the most idiotic thing to do.
To be honest I'm not all that suspicious of the stuff bout breaking windows, crossing the path of a black cat, walking under a ladder and stuff like that but l do try to avoid doing any of those just in case. Just that when one is aware the living and the dead is just a hairline apart from each other, one is incredibly aware of the consequences that might follow. Oh one more thing, it's believed in the chinese customs that everyone has three natural light reflecting mirrors on you. They are each of your shoulders and your forehead, your forehead being the strongest. And the youngsters are wondering why the superstitious elders are wanting them to get a haircut.
Ok I know that that is a crazy amount of information to take in so onto my less crazier superstitions.
3.33am there is something about this time that creeps me out and for some reason when scary supernatural stuff happens it's at this time. Scientifically speaking spirits work on a different realm compared to us even if I'm told everything will be safer at 3.34am the supernatural might have a whole day or year to do what they want to during the minute that we have. That thought creeps me out.
Karma, what goes around comes around. You gain and you lose karma points based on your actions not only that it'll come back, haunt you and kick you in the butt when you are not aware. Karma is a bitch. However I was told of this concept of where karma comes from. It's not based on the actions you do but the feelings and thoughts that the receiver of the good or bad deed emits, something like a curse. It's like the thought lingers and stay with the person and only when it manifests itself does it happen. Perhaps there is a reason why they say "remember those who have helped you" and "forgive and forget." And as to the theory why some spirits can't cross to the other side is cause somewhere in their mind they want justice and can only cross when the deed is done. Knowing this I tend to try to not give much thought about bad things that has been caused by others to me. It's also a way to stay happy as well
