I weent up to Northampton Thursday to help out on an office move. It was a damp, dark, monotonous ride up the M40/A43.
Northampton seems like a nice enough place...not a huge amount to do there but it seemed pleasant enough. We stayed at a Travelodge across the way from the Six Fields Leisure Park and dinner at a "american-style" diner...it actually wasn't too bad.
We finished early Saturday afternoon and I elected to take a meandering route back to Redhill via the A428/A1/M25. The weather was grey and drizzly and the scenery wasn't particularly memorable. I got down to the M25 and headed east. Somewhere around the M11 junction I got caught in a horrendous traffic jam....I had to filter for miles! They put in a diversion at the A12 junction but it wasn't clear where I was supposed to go if I wanted to keep going east. I decided to take the Wollwich Ferry across the Thames, so I headed in towards London on the A12. At the corner of the A12/A406 junction I stopped off at an empty Burger KIng and tried one of their new "Angus Beef" burgers. It was ok, but I didn't detect much difference from their regular burgers...anyway, after that, I went down the A406, found the exit for the Ferry and then had to wait 20 minutes because they were running only one boat across. I got to the other side and continued down the A205 and then turned onto the A20 so that I could get back onto the M25. By this time, it was dark and drizzly and I had to keep clearing my visor every few seconds....I really couldn't see that well...eventually, I made it to the M25 and then back to Redhill but it was all a bit tiring....
Sorry, that turned into a bit of a travelogue....
