I remember when the Exxon Valdez spill happened in Alaska back in the late '80s, and soon after the spill, as Exxon dragged its collective feet, I decided I'd stop buying their gasoline. The images I saw on TV at the time were heartbreaking, and in the years since that spill I've stayed away from buying ExxonMobile products (in addition to the spill, the fact that those two giants merged also turned my stomach). More than 20 years.
I wasn't against drilling before, but now I'm not so sure, because BP is doing something that will likely end up as a far worse environmental catastrophe. And as such, I will not buy BP's gasoline anymore (truth be told, I think I can count on one hand the number of times I'd bought gas from them anyway). I'm not calling for a boycott, in fact its tough because I'm sure a lot of Americans are employed by BP and not shopping there could hurt them. But, I hope more people follow suit.
