the thought of being forced to midnights really doesn't bother me all that much. i did have a fun time while working that shift, but i didn't feel as regualar as i do working afternoon shift. the thought of being layed off is just depressing.. for now i'll keep going in until they tell me not to.
the lastest rumor coming out of the rumor mill is either 10% paycut & a 10% layoff in the mechanic workforce or a 10 - 20% paycut. since we have 7050 mechanics system wide and i'm number 600 from the bottom, you can see why i might be concerned. even though it's coming from the rumor mill (atlanta), most of the rumors that came out of ATL has come true, including; 2 layoffs (RIF - Reduction In Force), decreased medical benefits and it costs more and so on. i hate the bean counters and not to fond of management, mainly cause they say that "our company is a family", yet we are just numbers to them. i'm hoping for just a pay cut or be demoted to ground mechanic, cause i'll still have a job.
I personally don't see the sense of laying off your mechanics if we are the only department not only paying for itself, but also making money too. the shops rebuild engines for several other airlines and us guys at the line do so much scheduled contract work and non scheduled contract work, it's amazing.
