Obsessions du jour:
1.)I sewed a tutu monday, sort of on a whim, since I have this ballet clothing fetish. it's sort of silly because I like the clothing more than I actually like ballet. I'll leave it at that since my theories about ballet fall into the verbose catagory. some things I just can't shut up about. Yeah, I took dance history in college.
2.)I want to sew a "real" classical ballet tutu costume, and they have kits on this site:tutu.com now if you go look and note the price, just keep in mind that the assembled "pro" ones are on the order of a grand or two $$ wise, and take many, many hours of construction. So that's a bargain, and this is a project that has fussy sewing stuff I want to learn.
3.)I want to learn how to sew corsets, historical, fetish and otherwise. I am not paying 250$for something I can make better, cheaper, and fit perfect. Yeah I know there are cheaper corsets out there, but I'd rather make one. one out of 3 or 4 companies that sell corset making kits-this site has a how to/online corset making class
4.)I also found this site, which details a method of making faerie wings that I was already familiar with, but they have some nice touches:How to make Faerie Wings
I started sewing when I was old enough not to scare the crap out of my mom holding a needle, or using the sewing machine. I come from a long line of sewing/crafts people on my mothers side and also on my fathers side.
I took some classes at the fashion institute of technologie in NYC when I was in high school. It was a desparate attempt for my parents to get me interested in shool. It sort of worked.
I made two rennaisance faire dressed in my early teans, of varrying degrees of success. I wore the vbest one to the renn faire in sterling forest and some strangers were quite rude to me, since my costume was not "period" i.e. was right for about two-three hundred years before their period, acording to them. [actually I could have pulled off saying it was from the english middle ages--same time as the italian renn. since england was so late in having it's renn. but I think they had set themselves in the engl. renn. so blah, blah, blah. Also my dress was off white which they hated since there were no bleaches/white dyes in those periods except-- horse piss- however my dress was *off white* like undyed material]
Now
I understand this phenomenon of people being rude "authenticity nazis" as they are called, but I was like fourteen and had gone to a great, great deal of effort, and a dress like that costs $$ and even more takes a great deal of care and labour to make, and the period they were in was even more $$$$ and labour intensive.
Yeah, next renn fair I go to in costume I'll probably wear a faerie costume, and they can suck my authentic cock.
summary of whole entry:
So, I'm in costuming mode.
If you read the whole thing you get a star for the day, sinc eI know it was a fucking novella.
