alright.
fortunately the diahria only lasted friday. [I work in a nursing home]
Unfortunately we were understaffed all weekend, and saterday was up there on the top two worst days at work ever. A resident (patient)accused an aide of physical abuse and the police were called and she was sent home and may very well be fired.
The problem is, the guy that accused her is a very unreliable person who is extremely manipulative and has falsly accused aides in the past.
The injury that he claims this aide gave him was an inch long bruise, less than a Cm wide, right near where is right knee brace goes, that the nurse said looked like something resulting from compression and not impact. I didn't see the bruise since I took care of the resident the next day and it had already disapeared. His allegation is that the aide intentionally hit him with the tray table when putting his dinner tray down on it.
He personally dislikes this woman and has had it out for her for quite some time. Now she will probably loose her job, may loose her liscence, and the accuser has the option of pressing criminal charges.
knowing this guy- and keep in mind I don't judge him-or deal with him in a judgemental way at work-
but he's got a massive anxiety disorder and is very paranoid and can be very verbally aggressive, and is extremely manipulative. He's the kind of guy thatbelieves his own lies.
my fascility is on the side of the resident by default and will often fire someone just on the accusation alone.
THeoretically- yeah I would rather err on the side of caution where people who abuse the elderly are conserned, but it really fucking sucks when a good aide is fired for something she/he either didn't do, or was a small accident- even the best of us trip up sometimes--[ and I mean sheer physical tripping- I've tripped over immumerable under bed wires, wheelchair wheels, I've had my toes run over by electric wheel chairs, etc.]
so, additionally, since we had five out of six aides to start with and one was due to go home at 7- 1/3 of the way through the shift--- we went down to 3 out of 6 aides, with 20 residents to put into bed each.
by 8:30 they had got two of the night shift ladies to come in early and they saved our butts-- but we were already 2/3 of the way through.
then last night I worked a double, and we were short on the evening shift again- 5/out of 6 and then on the night shift I was extra- overstaffed- which was surreal with how physically tired I was.
so that's what I've been up to since friday....
