I rented Amelie, and am so incridibly jealous. It's the same director at City of Lost Children, which I am also jealous of. I've been writing since I was twelve years old. THat's almost ten years. There is a lot of work that I have cast aside, finished or not, that I'm still fond of, but it is deeply flawed.
And all of those years writing fanfics. Worthless, no matter how good it is. MAybe if I had found myself writing Star Trek fics I could turn in into a career, but not Buffy, or Daria, or Harry Potter. It was good practice for me, and I had a flair for making the characters my own, while they still held on to their canon identities. (Most of the time anyway.)
Right now I'm working on a story loosly based on a buffy fanfic that I started when I was 15. So loosly based that the only thing that remains is the vampire concept and a Mary Sue character, which I have tossed into the background and stripped her of all Mary Sue traits. That character has haunted me for six years. She jumped through maybe 3 stories when I was young. I'm glad she's found a place in my current writing. It's connecting me to my origins.
