Tuesday there was a fight with Sarah, she screamed so much that the nieghbours came to check if things were ok.
Wednesday I went out with Britt and Dan to The Village with the goal of getting some club for a Madona CD release party. I'm pretty sure I got hit on, and I know I was getting checked out a lot. It was different. We ended up leaving before getting into the club because waiting outside in the cold for so long was starting to wear on people. So I had my first taste of The Village here in Toronto, it was an experience.
Last night I was going to go see Cancer Bats and This Is Hell at the Picadilly. When I got there I found out that the owners of the venue were trying to screw the promoter. He had been told it would cost $75 for the night, and now they wanted $300. So what were we to do without a venue?
Move the show down the street to a house of course!
So there were about 150 people crammed into this little house a few blocks away. It was so much fun, and made me miss the basement shows back in Ottawa.
Rad Affair tore up the place. I picked up a CD and while talking to the singer he recognizes me and then when he says he used to be the singer for ADAADW it all makes sense. We shoot the shit a little bit and he tells me that ADAADW will be playing a final show with him singing. Oh and how sweet is it to open the CD and find a thanks to Dan Hooligan on the inside, it made me feel good.
This Is Hell played some sweet covers including the Beastie Boys classic "Fight For Your Right (To Party)" and everyone got into it. They were stoked that I was filming and hooked me up with a hoodie.
Cancer Bats were amazing as always. Some of the best footage I have ever shot came from that set.
I ran into LaForge and NotAllan at the show. It was cool seeing some familiar faces, but meeting new people was just as awesome. This is what I love about punk and hardcore. I showed up outside the Picadilly sort of knowing some of the Cancer Bats and within minutes people were introducing themselves and when the show moved to the house everyone was welcomed with open arms and warm smiles. It really is amazing how being in this culture almost always means you can find a "family" in just about any city. I think too many people take that for granted and they really don't realize how special and amazing this culture is.
Now that the fun stuff is out of the way I have bad news. Since my asshole landlord is a lazy motherfucker and did not call the landlord of the place I want to move into my application has been rejected and I am back to house hunting, feeling hopeless, and hating my living situation even more.
