Well, I'm out of a job for a while.
This morning, as I was getting ready for work, I got a call from my boss's boss, who works in Albany (the capitol of the state I live in, for those who don't know). He wanted to check up on how I was doing with my assigned census work, as he's getting heat from his superiors to have the whole operation all wrapped up by the end of business on Friday, and there are two assignment areas still undone in the district in which I work. Both of them assigned to me by my regular-boss after their original workers couldn't hack them.
But, the boss's boss is taking heat for them not being done yet, so he unassigned one of the two from me and gave it to somebody else (who doesn't even know the area, so good luck finding those backroads), and emphasized how important it was to get the remaining assignment area done in the next two days.
An hour later, I get another call, from another boss in Albany. Who needs me to stop working altogether.
Apparently, the folks at the West Point Military Academy just suddenly realized that they really should have had SOMEBODY be responsible for these non-military personnel who've had free run of their army base the last several weeks. And since whoever SHOULD have been responsible for it is probably going to face a court-martial for not actually making sure that we weren't sneaking into any of the areas with classified materials inside... Nobody's exactly volunteering for that job.
So, until they sort out their bureaucratic snafu, I get to sit home. Collecting unemployment, and attending to my long-neglected online social entanglements.
Yay?

The military has some lazy asses in it. ugh. Someone slacking on their job is exactly why we haven't gotten our money to move yet.
