Drive Invasion 2005 KICKED TOTAL ASS!!!!! A load of friggin' bands, 7 movies, a car show, a motorcycle show, 2 wet t-shirt contests, and more.
We even put together some dosh for the hurricane relief effort.
This was our (me, my brother, and his kid) first one. We got there about 3 on Saturday, checked out the classic cars. Some really sweet models there. We listened to Hillbilly Werewolf, not awesome but a lot of fun. The Infernals were pretty good. Next up was Lust, fronted by two hot babes. They were dressed all South Pacific with grass skirts and headdresses. The strap on Susanne's bikni top of coconuts broke after like 2 songs, but perspiration kept the coconut mostly in place for the remainder of the set. They were playful, had a pretty good sound, and were a lot of fun.
One of the featured bands of the evening was The Woggles. Not really the sound I'm into, but they put on a hell of a show, hopping down off the stage - with their instruments - and dancing with the audience. Very energetic, and "The Fleshhammer" fucking rocks the guitar pretty well. The other feature, and the final band of Saturday, was Big Sandy and the Fly-Rite Boys. Their guitarist apparently got stuck in LA, so Johnny Knox sat in. These guys played some rockin' Western Swing, the steel guitar was smokin', and the audience was infected with it. We didn't wanna stop for the movies.
The movies.... These were all Jack Hill movies, and all included appearances by Sid Haig, both of whom were guests of honor Saturday evening. After a bit of question and answer with those fellas, we got things rolling with "The Big Doll House", a sweet flick about a planned break from a women's prision. Also starring was the delicious Pam Grier. Woo hoo!
Next was "Spider Baby", which is something you just gotta see for yourself. Marvelous performance by Lon Chaney!
We left after that one, though "Foxy Brown" and "Bloodbath" were still to come. Yeah, we're lightweights.
Next... Sunday.
XO, bitches, XO.
