My only regret is that I have but 2 hands, so I can't give last night's party more than 2 thumbs up! Thanks to HyperMediocrity and SniggitySnags for throwin' the bash. Your new pad kicks ass.

Richard Cory
By Edwin Arlington Robinson
Whenever Richard Cory went down town,
We people on the pavement looked at him:
He was a gentleman from sole to crown,
Clean favored, and imperially slim.
And he was always quietly arrayed,
And he was always human when he talked;
But still he fluttered pulses when he said,
"Good-morning," and he glittered when he walked.
And he was rich - yes, richer than a king -
And admirably schooled in every grace;
In fine we thought that he was everything
To make us wish that we were in his place.
So on we worked, and waited for the light,
And went without the meat, and cursed the bread;
And Richard Cory, one calm summer night,
Went home and put a bullet through his head.

It's 4:30, and I'm not even dressed yet. I'm gonna go do that now, then remove the windshield from my bike and maybe thin out my stand of river cane. As a grove matures, it produces thicker culms. I'm going to remove some of the thinnest stuff that it produced when I first planted it.
I've gotta get the trenchers out again, too. If I don't get the rest of my rhizome barrier down this year, I'm gonna be overrun.

Wow. If you recall, I posted pics of young river cane a week ago. It was about 3-4 feet tall then, I guess. It's now like 12 feet tall. Yes, 8 feet in 1 week. This is one of the reasons bamboo is going to become a super important raw material.

Yeah - bamboo is pretty remarkable. I remember living next to a grove by a river. It was maybe 20ft tall or more. there were some pieces lying around from when someone had cut a few down. It was crazy because they were so light but incredibly hard and inflexible. I bet you could totaly build a house out of that stuff.
