Tires
I changed the tire of a customer today. First tire I've ever changed in my whole, stinking, miserable life. It took me damn near twenty minutes because I had no idea what i was doing, but once I figured out how everything works, it was pretty easy, albeit physically demanding.
Being a good samaritan comes at a price, though. Taking time out of work to fix the guys tire meant I ended up behind on the side work inside the restaurant, so I had to listen to my manager bitch to me for an hour and a half about being lazy and falling behind. Goddamn cock-knocking ass monger.
I'm watching the first season of the revival of the Twilight Zone. I doubt most of you remember it. I'm pretty sure it aired before I was born, or when I was very small. Regardless, it didn't last very long, and for good reason. To begin with, it had to compete with the original, which is sacrosanct in the minds of many of its fans. Rather than trying to be better or even equal to the first, it tried to be different, which was really a bad idea. It was shot in color, but the image on the DVD looks grainy and a lot of the lighting looks too weak. Revisiting episodes from the earlier series, the black and white holds up better because it gets better lighting contrast and the image is clearer. Another problem is the length of the stoires. The original series had one story over one, 30 minute episode. Accounting for commercials, an episode was 22 and a half minutes. The updated series typically has three stories packed into one hour long episode. Already, the average length of each story is shorter than in the original series. Factor in commercials and each story is only about 15 minutes long. A lot of the stories need much more time to develop, and 15 minutes isn't enough. Finally, some of the stories just aren't very good. One of the poorest ones that come to mind is Dream Factory, an interesting premise about a future in which life is so miserable people pay to have dreams of better times pumped into their brains. It might have been more satisfying had it explained the nature of the world these people live in, or explored the people who work in the dream factory, it might have been much more interesting, but it didn't. Some of the stories, though, are fantastic. Examination Day, Palladin of the Lost Hour, and Shatter Day are the best so far.
