Beggar
I'm not sure if I mentioned this before, but I got a job. I work with a lobbying group called Clean Water Action. We "canvass" neighborhoods. We're the irritating people who ring at your door and beg for your money, and then we pretend it's ok when you tell us you don't have any money to give but you'd be happy to give us a signature, even though the signature really doesn't jack shit and we know you have the money cause of your brand-new Prius, asshole.
Last night was my first night out on my own. I checked in occassionally with my supervisor, but aside from that I was left to fend for myself. I don't fend very well. I begged up a grand total of five bucks. The minimum we have to meet is $105. If I keep this up, I'll get fired from my job as a professional beggar.
My biggest obstacle is asking for money. Growing up, I was taught that it's unseemly and impolite to ask people money related questions, much less to ask people for money straight out. But if I can't get over that, I won't be able to meet my targets, and then my ass will be fired. So come Monday I'm going to work with one of the supervisors ot get tough and upfront about my begging. Not in people's face, mind you, although I would have liked to share some words with the asshole who told me my organization is funded by the Rockefellers.
