Hello lovelies!
This one goes back quite a few years, (when I was around 10 years old), but is such a traumatising experience for me!
I think any of my friends could tell you that I'm a people pleaser, along with getting pretty bad anxiety in certain situations.
Note: I LOVE Olives now, on anything! On pizza, on a platter, in pasta, by themselves or at the bottom of a martini!
But when I was younger, up until about the age of 16, that was definitely not the case. I despised them. The taste, the smell, the texture, EVERYTHING turned me off them.
When I was about 10 years old, I went to my friends house for dinner. This was a fairly new friend I had made through school, and I really wanted to make a good impression with her family. I hadn't eaten lunch so as you can imagine, by the time I sat down at the dinner table my stomach was growling at me!
Guess what my friends mum had made for dinner? A big salad. Guess what was in the salad? Yep, you guessed it, Olives.
She served me first, and grabbed two big salad spoons and heaved this olive infested salad onto my plate and I probably looked like I'd just seen a ghost. What would anyone else do in this situation? Probably either tell the host they are not too fond on olives, or just eat around them - but 10 year old me was too eager to impress so I proceeded to eat the salad, and felt too nervous to leave any food on my plate.
One by one, I swallowed every. single. olive.
I thought by swallowing the olives whole that I could avoid the taste, and of course the texture that I disliked so much.
Every olive that hit my stomach made me feel more and more unwell. (Duh) and by the time I got home from dinner I was sick everywhere and for those that are wondering... yes, they came out as they went in. Whole.
That was probably one of the worst meal experiences of my life, and traumatised me for a further few years around olives!
What is one food you just cant stomach, no matter how polite you were being?
Mine is now mushrooms! Even if they were served to me by the queen, I wouldn't be able to hide my facial expressions while I ate them!
Thank you @rambo and @missy for always coming up with interesting topics!
All my love,
Akiramai
