Hey lovelies,
Today I wanted to write a blog homework on @missy and @rambo’s topic of global warming and how it is evident where you live.
I live in Sydney, Australia. It’s so beautiful here and I’m very lucky to live in such a country. Recently, I’ve definitely noticed an increase in hot days, especially summer - to the point where its almost unbearable outside.
Unfortunately, because of Australias existing pressure on water supply, this means an increase in bush fires. Bush fires have become so frequent these days that you hardly blink an eye when it happens.
Where I am situated in Sydney I am surrounded by both bush and ocean, and am very used to seeing the sky thick with black smoke from bush fires. Not only do these fires destroy our trees and put those who live near bush fire zones at risk, but it also destroys many native animals who become trapped, and also destroys their homes.
The collapse of regional or even global coral reef ecosystems is one of the most significant effected, as they have a narrow temperature range in which they can be healthy.
The CSIRO predicts that the additional results in Australia of a temperature rise of between 2 and 3 degrees Celsius will be:
- 97% of the Great Barrier Reef bleached annually.
- 10–40% loss of principal habitat for Victoria and montane tropical vertebrate species.
- 92% decrease in butterfly species' primary habitats.
- 98% reduction in Bowerbird habitat in Northern Australia.
- 80% loss of freshwater wetlands in Kakadu (30 cm sea level rise).
There are so many other valuable things in our country that we could lose just by a 2-3 degrees celsius rise, let alone a 5-6 temperature rise which is predicted.
Make sure to research how you can help contribute to slow down global warming in your city! <3
Lots of love,
Akiramai

Thank you all for your responses to my blog! <3 It's so lovely to see others that share the same heartbreak and worries as I do when it comes to the world. I think the biggest change we could make is making sure more people are informed! Often it's too easy to think little things won't make a difference but they do! Although we cannot undo the damage we've already caused on this earth but we can slow down global warming a hell of a lot! <3

I live in the In upstate New York and it's been a crazy summer this year, there's been a ridiculous amount of rain and still record high temps, suddenly it hails, and as an area New England hasn't had more than a couple tornados over the last decade and all of a sudden we've had 3 over the last couple months. We also had one of the least precipitation winters and warmest winters on record last year. Honestly would think of this as probably the safest place in the country natural disaster wise except for the fact that 2 years ago buffalo had so much snow dumped on them so fast, that traffic on the interstates literally was buried and trapped in the snow.
