Well, I guess I should introduce myself and say a little more about who I am so that everyone can get to know me a little better...where to start?
My background is Egyptian as far back as forever, but I was born in Saudi Arabia and lived there for five years or so, until my sister was born, and things got too violent with the Iraq-Iran crisis, so we moved to Egypt. We were there for maybe four years or so until my dad got a job in Canada, so we were shuttled off to Kincardine, then Ajax, then I mved to Kingston to study art. Art has always been a huge part of my life, and I don't think there has ever been a time where I had seriously considered doing anything but art until I die. And especially now, living in Kingston, I realize that I have a lot to say about culture, religion, politics, and generally about the way the world works, especially since the experiences I've had throughout my life are so different from those of the average Canadian. I've seen war, violence, poverty, abuse, misogyny, racism, and xenophobia face to face, and those tend to be the things I talk about in my art. Right now I'm going though a "Women and Islam" phase with my paintings, I'll upload some picutures soon enough if anyone's curious.
But despite all that, I'm really not a depressing person when you talk to me, honest. I like Monty Python and Eddie Izzard (I prtty much know "Holy Grail" and "Dress to Kill" off by heart). I like cherry blossom trees and lace and freshly baked cookies and boys that make me laugh and those thick belts that sit on your waist. I like green eyes and Thai food and Carl Sagan and Dean Martin and any cocktail that has Bailey's in it. I like Montreal! Oh how I love Montreal...the culture, the architecture, the history, the culture...plus, the people are nicer than in Toronto. So yes, that's me in a blog post. And if you like any of the things I like maybe we'll be friends, and if you like any of the things I dislike, well, we can still be friends, but be ready for a friendly debate
Cheers and godspeed.
