Not much to say. I've been going to bed at 9:00 every night and getting up at 4 a.m. every morning to drive 2 hours each way to Houghton for work. My first story was published yesterday, but it was kind of overshadowed by the fact that I had to spend $180 on my car after it crapped out going up a hill in L'Anse. The belt was completely shredded, the pulley was all fucked up and off its bearings and something about a tensioner. I also need to get my transmission flushed which is going to cost me another $90. I don't get paid until the 26th and I'm dirt poor. Missed work today because I have to wait for someone to tell me the car is okay to drive.
I'm moving into my apartment in Chassell on Sunday. So I'll be paying rent in two places, but at least I'll get 4 hours off the road and I can go to bed at a reasonable time.
I am bored out of my skull. Everyone's gone. Nick left yesterday for Spain. He won't be back until June. Brian doesn't get here until June. I don't really talk to Tom anymore and I am never online because I don't have the Internet at my house. I won't have the Internet or cable in Chassell and I don't know anyone up there, either. There will be lots of reading and doing homework and hiking alone.
On a brighter note, I am planning a camping trip for the North Wind staff for sometime in June. I haven't decided if we should hike Pictured Rocks or the Porcupine Mountains. I think Pictured Rocks is easier for everyone to get to.
Anyway, I'm at the North Wind office right now so I'm going to get to work on filling out my FAFSA and getting some stuff together for my feature writing class. I got my grade for editing and design; I got a B. I was pretty happy with that. My mom didn't seem so ecstatic because it wasn't an A but whatever.
Hope all is well with you folks. Sorry I'm never around anymore.
Random Fact #1: I have been listening to NPR a lot because it's the only thing that comes in when I'm driving through the back woods of the Upper Peninsula. It's refreshing but I don't like listening to stories about a 52-year-old prostitute in Mexico City who is pregnant with her 12th child, has been prostituting for 30 years and on good days makes the equivalent of $4.50.
Random Fact #2: I haven't smoked a cigarette in two weeks. I almost broke down yesterday at Nick's because of my car and he had a pack of Camel Turkish Silver's and I
those. But I restrained myself. Getting through the first couple cravings sucks, but I am glad I have stopped. That and I haven't smoked pot in a long ass time either. My brain feels like it's returning to normal.
