I went to see Michael Moores "Fahereneit 9/11" last night.
Plusses: The truth. While Moore is fantastic editor and storyteller, the most captivating thing about the film is the actual information brought forth. A second startling thing is how readily accessible this info is. Bush is a maggot and I'm happy to see his underhandness, as well as the general lack of caring of the Senate and congress, brought to light. with that said...
Minuses- I thought that the parts of the movie involving the Lipscomb family were off. While emotionally captivating, I couldn't help thinking throughout it that it was a plea to emotiion and not only unnessacary(sp?) to the film's overarching scope, but also a fallacy which detracts from it. The scenes in Iraq, with attacks on civilians and commentary from the soldiers, was enough to justify from both sides how the U.S., realyy shouldn't be there.
A second thing that I thought was almost fictious was his potrayal of Iraq before the war. While it might have been a more habitable enviroment before the bombing, it was in no way the almost Shangra-la that Moore depicted of life under Saddam.
Yet despite these sometimes glaring ommissions of fact, the overall scope of the piece was excellent.
My take on 9/11- B+ as a film, but definately something that ardent Bush supporters should see. It's something that, try as you might, you can't rationalize away.
