Well, I just got back from the hospital. My dad prosthetic leg broke as he was walking, and when he fell he broke his hip. He was taken to the hospital nearest to where they live(Alliston, ON), and the hospital nearly killed him. First, they went to take x-rays of his hip, and instead of stretchering my 72 year old father down to the x-ray lab and taking him back up they same way, they forced him to get up and into a wheelchair(the position you're in in a wheelchair with a broken hip can easily lead to a bloodclot). He's diabetic, and because they were trying to get him into surgery, they starved him for close to two days. He went into shock, so they pumped him full of morphine and he went into a coma. The doctors there also told my mom that his lung collapased, and started him(with no food)on IV anti-biotics.
Turn out because he wasn't fed, his lungs got fluid it in them. Between the no sugar in his system, the mounds of morphine, and the wrong anti-biotics, he nearly died. My mom had to contact the local MP and get their offices to call the hospital he was at in order for him to get him a transfer to a proper hospital (Newmarket, ON) with a proper intensive care unit.
He's in stable condition now, but the next 24 hours are going to be interesting. He's on blood thinners, and host of other drugs to correct the fuck ups the first hospital made. Did I mention that you should try your best to always avoid going to hospitals in the country? Fucking Quacks...
