Tonight sitting in a bar, surrounded by friends, but more or less alone, I stared seemingly vacantly at a darkened window. I was reminded of a time when I was 15:
In early high school, I had one very sincere, and very very beautiful friend: classically trained in opera, pianist, athlete, old money: you name it. On the rare occasions that she spoke, her words were gospel. On this particular day, I stared what seemed vacantly at a closed door. Always the mind reader, knowing it wasn't the door I was looking at, but the self loathing reflection it gave back, she said to me:
You're very beautiful you know.
I glanced back at her in shock: her uniform skirt 8 sizes too long, a blatant $100 hair cut.
"What is that suppose to mean?" I stammered, a bit hostile.
"You are very beautiful," she repeated. "You just don't know it yet. Everyone here knows it...Carmen knows it, that girl knows it, we all do." She continued calmly, "some day you'll figure that out for yourself."
The subject was dropped and that was the end of that.
The reflection this time in the bar was legitimately beautiful: same girl, same face, just a different perspective.

It takes all of us some time to realise who we are...and more importantly....WHAT we are.
So im glad that you know now just how the rest of us see you.
