I intentionally avoid politics on SG. I think too many people are too immature to discuss politics.
The other thing is, you immediately get lumped and labeled. On some things, I'm very conservative. On others, I'm very liberal. So of course, when on an issue that I'm conservative on, people will immediately call me a right-wing conservative whacko and completely not listen to anything I'm saying. Flip that over and something I'm liberal on, I'm a pinko commie hippie liberal and completely not listen to anything I'm saying.
It's pretty sad that we've become this shallow when it comes to politics. It's not just SG, but it's everywhere. I think the reason SG is worse than some places is because people here are so young. Older people usually tend to think before blurting out nonsense. Not always, but generally.
For that reason, I like talking to old people. Funny thing is they always tell me how mature I am for my age, and I heard this even in HS, which is weird because I consider myself far from it.
Anyways, that's why I avoid politics on SG.
