So I just got back from a mini-vacation. I was in Los Angeles, CA attending a Scifi convention. There were 3 conventions going on at once in the Marriot Hotel: Farscape, Stargate and Firefly. I was attending the Farscape one. I like Stargate better but the fans in Farscape are much more friendly had love to party more than any other fandom I've ever met. The convention was over the weekend, Friday - Sunday but I showed up a day earlier on Thursday so that I could meet the other fans and get some reset before the convention started. It took me about 5 hours and 10 minutes to drive from San Jose to LA. I was flying the whole way doing about 85 - 90 mph. On the way home though I got pulled over for speeding, 86 in a 65 zone. Talk about a shitty way to end my vacation. So I stuck to the speed limit and it took me almost 6 hours to get home.
Any way the convention was great. What I enjoy more than meeting the actors was socializing with the other fans. I went to be about Midnight each night but I heard there were people up partying into the early morning hours. Next year I have to plan to stay up later.
I wasn't planning on spending much to buy stuff at the auction since I already have many banners of my favorite character "Chiana" but one of the fans is an artist and donated some of her art work to be auctioned off. I bid $200 to get the painting she did of Chiana and I got her to autograph it for me too. Now I just have to find a frame to protect my prize.
One of the high points of the convention for me was on Monday when I met a very pretty girl.
I had seen her walking around the convention earlier and was wishing I could talk with her. I'm a bit shy when it comes to meeting girls. Well I managed to talk with her and found out that she lives about 2 hours north of me in Sacramento. So I got her email address and hopefully will be able to get to know her more. She likes to watch TV in her spare time so it is nice to meet someone who doesn't think that watching TV is a bad thing.
