Friday was Sid's birthday party. It was an awesome time, of course. I'm not going to write about it cause most of *you* were already there!
Saturday I drove down to NY to spend the weekend with my fambly. It's summer vacation from college for my sister so she is living at home and working. She told me she wanted to go clubbing in NYC with her friends Stefanie and Margaret (no relation to evil Margaret, my roommate) and she asked to find a 18+ place for us to go. I found a place called Albion and decided that I wanted to go there. Unfortunately, my sister's squeer friends didn't want to go to a goth/industrial club, they wanted to go to a place like Avalon. Look at the pictures on their website and you'll understand why I didn't want to go to a place like that. I'm not really into the whitehat and sorority girl hoochie mama clubbing experience anymore, hehe. But my sister's friends are only 18 and 19 and thats the kind of place they wanted to go to. We decided to go to "Deep" which seemed to be a newer place with a much cheaper cover. Margaret's cousin Andrew and her bf Joe came along making us six people total.
We drove down to the city and when we got to Deep the line was like two blocks long. Ugh. We weren't on line even five minutes when a guy approached us and offered to free VIP passes and brought us around to the back entrance. He says its cause we were all couples and they wanted people like us there. It was pretty surprising, especially because we weren't couples, only one couple, the others were cousins and siblings, lol. Maybe it was because Margaret and Stefanie were really hott, hehe. Anyways, we went to the back entrance and they were checking IDs and well, Joe was only 18 and they wouldn't let him in. Apparently it was only 18+ for girls and 21+ for guys. There wasn't anything we could do, so we left and walked two blocks to Avalon. I wonder if the Avalon in NYC is related to the Avalon in Boston - they have the same logo and everything.
Avalon NYC is in an old church. It's actually reall cool inside, fairly large with lots of twisty maze-like passages. The $30 cover was ridiculous though. And $10 drinks! In Boston, the cover would be $15 at most and the same drinks are $5. The club was the sketchiest place I had ever been to (and I used to go to The Rack in Boston). First, it was like 90% guys and many of them were shorter than me (I'm only 5'8"). Any woman who was there was careful to stay very close to her bf or other friends because any girl left alone would immediately be swamped by hordes of creepy guys. I spent a lot of the night just standing behind my sister blocking the guys who would just walk up and grind against her. Unfortunately, you really need two people, one to block in back and one to block in front. I hope she doesn't think that every club is like this, though I suppose she learned some good defensive maneuvers. That was in the techno room. The hip-hop room was even worse. Stefanie ended up dancing with Andrew most of the night, even though I could tell she wasn't really that into him just to keep the sketchy guys at bay. At that point, I really wasn't have very much fun, so I got another drink.
I was at the bar and a girl comes up from behind me and hands me her very pink drink and says "watch this for me a second". She disappears and then comes back, introduces herself as Amanda (she is cute!) and plants one on me (thats to amuse MissTyrios, if she reads that). She says, "come dance with me later?" and she runs off. I was like, hmm, wow. A pretty girl in this sea of men. So, I decided I need to find Amanda and take her up on that offer to dance. I pass her later in the hallway but she is going the other way and she grabs me as I walk past but keeps walking. D'oh. Later on, I find her again with her friends, two girls and a guy or two, I'm not sure, but she is all over the place. I'm standing behind one of her friends at the bar and she slowly backs towards me and next thing I know I have my arms around her and we are dancing. It was weird, I wasn't *that* drunk and I'm not aggressive at all (I'm the complete opposite), I'm not sure how that happened. She turns around, introduces herself as Jill as we chat a bit and I buy her a drink. She asks me if I want to dance (we were at the bar at this point, not on the dance floor). I say "sure" and as we head to the dance floor my sister comes up to me and says that her friends want to go home. D'oh! I head to the dance floor anyways and Jill and I dance and make out. omg, it was like I was channeling Margaret or something (the evil Margaret, my roommate, not my sister's friend Margaret). Yeah, I know I say I'm not the kind of guy who makes out with random girls at clubs, but... just this once, lol. I really prefer a more romantic, slow kind of thing, not the aggressive jam-my-tongue-down-your-throat experience that it was.
At this point my sister was beginning to bug me to go home. Jill was like, "you brought your little sister here?!", lol. My sister asks Jill how old she is. She says "20", which of course, she gives me crap about later. "Too young," she says, but I explain to her that it's ok because I told her that I was 25, lol. No, she doesn't pass the "half-plus-seven" rule. I tell Jill that my sister is making me leave and I slip my card into her pocket and tell her to e-mail me. I have no idea if she will or not. I'm not expecting she will, so it doesn't really matter.
I gotta go... maybe I'll add more later.
