If you were to run your finger along any horizontal surface in my room, whether it be the top of my stereo or a book in my bookcase, when you were done you would notice that your finger has turned a shiny silver color.
How did this happen? Well, last night was "Fantasy" at ManRay and the theme was "Pervesions of Oz". I desired a tin man-inspired costume so I had my roommate Margaret pick up some silver powder at the costume store. It's really neat stuff. First you spray yourself with some kind of primer which keeps the powder from coming off when you sweat and then you just rub the powder - which may contain "aluminum. bronze, or copper" according to the label - all over your body. The end result is that your skin turns a shiny silver color - "Silverman" was the name I seemed to have acquired last night. The powder has the consistancy of talcum powder and even though I covered my floor with a large sheet the room filled with silver "smoke" and the powder got everywhere. I got it all over my black leather pants, so I decided to just put some powder on them and they turned "silver" too.
Black boots, black leather pants - which turned silver - silver on my chest, back, arms, hands, neck, face, and ears and black eyeliner to accent my eyes. There was quite a bit of silver in my hair too which made me look a little like I was graying, but still looked pretty good. I must admit, I looked hottt! I got my pic taken at the club and I should get them e-mailed to me today and then I will post them up here for all to see.
Margaret bought some shiny silver cloth at a fabric store and fashioned herself a halter top and skirt out of it. We also bought a large plastic funnel at Home Depot and coated it with aluminum foil. She also found a plastic axe somewhere and coated that with aluminum foil. She looked really good too. I was impressed how well her costume came out (all with just safety pins and no sewing machine!).
Margaret's bf, Adam, came up from NYC and he didn't have time to make a costume so he just came in all black. I lent him my collar and he put in a couple of lip rings, some eyeliner, and spiked up his hair a bit. He wore a black shirt, but unfortunately, his pants were a light gray or maybe they were brown, which ultimately proved to be a problem.
We picked up Shannon, Margaret's friend, on the way and arrived at the club at about 11pm or so. Margaret, Shannon, and I were able to get in fine, but, well, they wouldn't let Adam in with his non-black pants. We really didn't have time to go home to go back and get him a different pair, and Margaret didn't want to abandon him, so she and him went back home and Shannon and I went in the club alone
Margaret's friend Shannon, is well, to be polite, very moody. Unfortunately, I had never actually seen her in a good mood. The first time I ever met her was last summer when Marg, Shannon and I tried to go to ManRay (would have been my first time there) and they wouldn't let us in because Margaret was a bit intoxicated. Shannon was very upset, threw a fit, and cried on the way home. I felt really bad for her, and tried to cheer her up but didn't have much success. I was pretty sure after that that she didn't like me very much but Margaret says she is that way toward everybody. A couple of weeks ago we were supposed to all go to ManRay again and we went on a shopping spree at Hubba Hubba and despite spending $200 on a corset, Shannon ditched and never showed up at ManRay that night. Oh yeah, here is an example of an exchange between Shannon and I.
We meet, she says, "You look...different"
"How so? It's been a long time"
"Your hair"
"My hair, hmmm, don't remember what it was like last time I saw her. Maybe a ...little shorter?"
"No...It's not... as slimey this time."
"Oh, my hair was slimey last time? Did I have gel in it or something?"
"No, It's just...not as slimey now"
...
I gave her plenty of opportunity to dig herself out of that hole and maybe say that my hair looked "nice" this time, but she didn't seem to care, lol. Not exactly a compliment.
Margaret still teases me everytime I get ready to go out and says to me "Mike, your hair isn't looking slimey tonight" or something similar.
Anyways, I hadn't really hung out with Shannon again until St Patrick's day and while she seemed really unhappy that night too, once she had a few drinks she became much friendlier and we actually talked (mostly gossiped about Margaret hehe). So, it was a bit awkward at first, with just me and Shannon at ManRay, but I bought her a bunch of drinks (and a bunch more for me) and we danced and well, *I* had fun.
Personally, I had a great time. My "silver" outfit got me *a lot* of attention. And I admit, I'm a bit of attention whore (isn't anyone who has a blog a bit of an attention whore?) In the bathroom, two women (its unisex, like Ally McBeal), asked me how I turned myself silver and we chatted a bit, though I don't exactly recall what about and later when I left the club, they shouted to me "Bye Silverman! See you later" They are regulars so I'll probably run into them again.
I ran into Rachelle (I believe thats how you spell it), who I mistakenly called "Michelle", even after she told me her name yet again, who is a friend of my ex-roommate's friend Elspbeth (lol), and we hung out and chatted. She often goes to ManRay alone, as a lot of people do, but she knows so many regulars that she always has people to hang out with. Thats what I want to be able to do. I also talked to some bartenders and club security and found out that my favorite bartender had moved to Italy (I knew he was moving but not so soon!), so I had to make friends and find a new bartender. Also, I had my pic taken by the photographer there, who kept on saying "silverman! silverman!" over and over. I can't wait to see the pics.
The most interesting experience occured later at the bar though. I was ordering some drinks and I feel a finger run up and down my spine. I turn around and there is this really attractive petite brunette (she was older, hehe, but by that I mean probably mid-30s, lol). Her name was "Elaina". She told me how beautiful my back was and asked me if I had a heart (you'd be amazed at how *few* people actually put it together and realized the Oz connection (don't people look at the theme anymore?)). She told me hers was under lock and key cause she was there with Alex, "a player" in her words, lol. She introduced me to Alex, and we talked about my silver-ness and how I did it. I showed her the bottle of silver powder I had used and she took some and rubbed it on her arms. Shannon and I moved on but we ran into her again on the coat-check line. I asked if she came to ManRay often and handed her the bottle of silver powder (I have another and that one was mostly empty). She took the bottle and thanked me and we talked some more. Maybe I'll see her again there sometime.
Shannon and I caught a cab and I invited her back to my place (which is also Marg's place of course). I said maybe Margaret and Adam would still be awake and we could hang out and have some MrBeer (a beer making kit beer that I bought Marg for Christmas). To my surprise, she agreed and came over. Of course, Marg and Adam were asleep and my other roommate, Sara, wasn't even home yet. We woke them up and talked a little bit but they weren't really up for getting out of bed. The best was Margaret's reaction when we got back. "Why (the hell) is Shannon here??". Then she paused and said, "Are you guys gonna make out?" (A very very Margaret thing to say). I laughed.
I gave Shannon some MrBeer and she curled up on the couch in the living room...
Now, just so you all know, I did *not* hook up with Shannon. So if you are hoping for an erotic ending to this story, well, you will be dissappointed. I ended up washing my leather pants with saddle soap and I got a blanket and pillows for Shannon and turned the couch (futon) into a bed. She looked so comfortable, though she kept on saying that she should go home because she had stuff she needed to do in the morning...
I'm not saying that I wanted to hook up with Shannon. I dunno, I probably would have, but its better I didn't, because, well, I don't really like her (I'm not being mean, I just find her ... difficult to get along with). The closest I came was I did share her black and laid down next to her, but we weren't even close enough to touch. Honestly, I don't know what she expected either, she seemed kind of ambivalent too.
Sara came home at maybe 3:30 or so and we chatted (she had been drinking and had her own stories to tell). After much procrastination, Shannon decided she wanted to go home. It was 5am by that time, and I was sober, so we hopped in my car and I drove her back to her apartment.
This morning I woke up, and I could just tell Sara was dying for gossip. She didn't have the guts to ask me directly though, so as she was leaving to go to the gym she yelled out to me, "so Mike, did you hook up with Shannon??!!" I just laughed. I think her and Margaret both believe that I did.

I assumed he was trying to save his pride; I wouldn't know any other way he could go from asking me to move in and then saying he wasn't expecting a commitment.
And we all know men watch the OC because they want to, not because someone makes them
