I'm looking over the CE boards after having been out of pocket for a period; business travel to Thailand and Japan. I'm not disappointed to see a handful of the most obvious trolls removed from the site. By itself, this is no big deal and the mods have demonstrated immense tolerance for some "contributors." However, it is alarming to see that nearly 20% of the topics on the CE board have been locked in the past week or so.

In short, moderating appears to have taken on a new meaning; complete tolerance followed by arbitrary intolerance. Moderating should include refereeing, negotiating, and presiding - with an eye toward upholding the site guidelines or rules, which are necessarily vague.

Acting as a site moderator is a thankless job no doubt, but it deserves predictability and even handedness at all times. It also requires infinite patience, which may be in short supply after moderating the same shit for a few years.

Perhaps the next redesign should include a refresh of the moderating staff; to prevent burn out and keep things fresh.

Anyway, I do hope everyone had a wonderful turkey day. I'm look forward to Christmas, seeing family, and taking time to reflect on what has been an incredibly challenging year.
