Once again, the money-crazed, power-hungry fundamentalist Quakers who run the institution where I work have refused to bow to the steely will of the graduate student union, so the GAs and TAs have gone on strike. I just passed by a group of them picketing outside the English department. Shame about their slogans, though, because I imagine some of the faculty would have some good tips for them. I considered suggesting some IWW songs to them, but thought it would be a bit crass. After all, these graduate students are sponsored by the American Federation of Teachers and the AFL-CIO, whereas the last graduate student union I encountered were simply pawns of the United Auto Workers' enterprise for world domination.
