Today I made a Plum Brown-Sugar Upside-Down Cake to bring to work tomorrow (plums were on sale 3 lbs for $5). It's really pretty. $3.00 a slice. People better fucking buy it. I'm going to get out the glass cake stand-thingy and have it right there on the counter so everyone will have to look at it.
I'm going to make Carrot Soup tomorrow, with cumin and pecans. I got the recipe off Epicurious and it looks really good. My customers don't really seem that interested in soup, I've noticed. This annoys me. It's summertime, people! Chilled soup is the best thing to eat in summer! I made Gazpacho last week (and it was fucking awesome, by the way) but I only sold ONE. People are wierd about cold soups, I think. I'll probably have more luck with hot soup in the winter. But if no one buys it, I'll at least live off it this week. Fuck them and their unsophisticated palates. (What a great attitude, huh?)
I spent all day today, my day off, doing work stuff... had to call distributors and set up accounts, order catalogs and set up meetings, make shopping lists, go over paperwork from last week..
I'm completely new to all of this management/ business stuff. It wouldn't be so bad if there was a system in place that someone could show me how to use. I'd have no problem picking something like that up. But I'm starting from scratch, and I've had no experience doing this at other jobs so I have NO IDEA where to begin. The first three days I didn't write ANYTHING down: expenses, sales, inventory... it just didn't occur to me until halfway through the week that OH YEAH... I'M the one in charge... it's up to ME to keep track of everything... But I'm learning a lot at least.
I have to wake up at SIX A.M. tomorrow. I haven't had to get up that early since high school (in college, my earliest class was at nine, I lived right down the street... and I was still late all the time.)
